This depends on your situation. If you just started a new job, maybe you want to wait a bit and see how that works out for you. The one thing that you do not want to do is get in over your head where your monthly payment takes up everything that you make each month.

You also want to make sure that you buy the right way. One of the things that caused this mortgage/housing crisis we are currently in is because people were put into bad loans. If you try to get preapproved by a couple different lenders and they both tell you that you cannot buy a house, stop looking and see what you need to do so that you can buy. Sometimes it is a simple credit issue that can be corrected within a few months. It is better to fix whatever the problem is and hold off on buying, then to force your way into a bad loan with high rates and horrible terms. Make sure you are surrounding yourself with people that are going to give you honest and good information!
