The material and process that most builders use are more energy efficient than the homes that were built 30, or even 10, years ago. High efficiency, energy saving materials are used by quality builders. A home built 30 years ago may have a monthly utility bill of $350 during the cold winter months, while the new energy efficient homes that are being built might have a monthly bill of $100 to $150.

New construction also saves money, well, because it is new. There will be little to no maintenance for the first few years. A pre-owned home built 20 years ago, which seems fairly new, will soon be requiring a new roof, furnace or AC. Plus, new home means new styles. Updating will not be needed for awhile. Looking at it that way, new construction could save you thousands.
